What are the Most Common Reasons for Fluid Leaks?

It is important to us at Mercedes-Benz of Tacoma to keep our customers informed about their vehicles so that they can stay in good shape. If you notice something leaking from your vehicle, it could be minor or serious. There are instances where fluid naturally leaks from your vehicle, but how can you tell if it needs service?

There are six common fluids that can leak from your car: water, motor oil, transmission fluid, coolant, power steering fluid, and gear oil. Brake fluid can also leak from your vehicle, but it isn't normal for brake fluid to cause a puddle to form under your vehicle.

When your vehicle is leaking oil, it is probably because you have a gasket for seal that is worn or damaged. A leaking head gasket should be repaired immediately because it can cause your vehicle to shut down. If you are using the air conditioner regularly, it could cause water to leak. Pink or red fluid could be a transmission fluid leak. If you need help determining what fluid is leaking, it is best to have it inspected by a service technician.
